How to remove your details from Spokeo
Spokeo aggregates social, address and phone data into a paid people-search profile. Its opt-out is quick but needs the exact listing URL.
What Spokeo exposes
Step by step
- 1
Locate your listing
Search your name and copy the URL of the correct profile.
- 2
Submit the opt-out
At spokeo.com/optout, paste the URL and give an email address for confirmation.
- 3
Confirm by email
Click the link Spokeo emails you to finalise the removal. Nothing happens until you do — an unconfirmed request is not a request.
- 4
Search again for the ones you missed
Spokeo indexes by profile, and most people have more than one. Try your name with and without a middle initial, any former surname, and previous cities. Each hit needs its own opt-out submission with its own URL.
- 5
Use a forwarding address if you would rather not hand over your main one
The confirmation email is the only thing the address is needed for. An alias or forwarder works fine and keeps a live email out of a people-search company’s records, which is a reasonable thing to want given what you are asking them to do.
If that doesn’t work
- California residents can use the CCPA deletion route instead, which carries a legal obligation rather than a courtesy suppression.
- If the opt-out form rejects a URL, open the listing in a private window first — a logged-in or personalised URL often carries parameters the form will not accept.
What removing yourself from Spokeo won't do
Most guides skip this part.
- One URL, one listing. Spokeo will suppress exactly the profile you submitted and nothing else, so duplicates under name variants stay live until each is submitted separately.
- It does not touch the sources. Spokeo aggregates from public records, marketing data and social profiles — all of which continue to exist and to be sold after your listing goes.
- Re-listing is normal. A fresh data purchase can rebuild a profile that looks new to their system, and the earlier opt-out will not catch it.
- It is US-focused. For a UK reader this is rarely where the real exposure is.

FAQ
How long does Spokeo take?
Usually a few days after you confirm the email link.
Do I have to give them my email address?
For the standard opt-out, yes — it is how they confirm the request is genuine. An alias or forwarding address works perfectly well and is the sensible option here.
Why is my profile still showing after I opted out?
Either the confirmation link was never clicked, or it is a different profile. Both are common. Check your inbox first, then search for name variants and old addresses.
Is Spokeo legal?
In the US, aggregating public records is generally lawful, which is why the route is an opt-out rather than a legal demand. That is the difference between the US guides and the UK ones — in the UK you have a statutory right; here you have a company policy.
