Step by step

  1. 1

Find and copy your listing URL

Search your name and open the correct record.

  2. 2

    Submit the removal

At truepeoplesearch.com/removal, paste the URL and complete the CAPTCHA.

  3. 3

    Confirm

Follow the confirmation step to finalise — removal is usually quick, often within a day.

  4. 4

    Remove the relatives’ cross-links too

TruePeopleSearch links records together, so your name can still be reachable through a relative’s listing after yours has gone. Open the listings of anyone shown as a relative or associate and check whether your name and address appear there. You can only opt out your own record, but knowing where you are still visible is the point.

  5. 5

    Diary a re-check

This is one of the most frequently re-listed directories, precisely because it is free and rebuilds aggressively from new data. A record removed today can be back in a few months, and there is no notification when it happens.

If that doesn’t work

  • If the removal form rejects your listing URL, copy it from the address bar of the listing itself rather than from a search-results link — the two are not the same URL.
  • Turn off any VPN before you start; the CAPTCHA frequently fails on datacentre IP ranges.

What removing yourself from TruePeopleSearch won't do

Most guides skip this part.

  • There is no paywall, so the exposure is unusually high while it lasts — and equally, nothing stops a new record being built and published without warning.
  • It clears one record. Cross-links from relatives’ and associates’ listings can still surface your name and address.
  • Re-listing is frequent here, more so than on most US directories. Treat this as maintenance rather than a one-off.
  • It does nothing about the source data. The public records and commercial feeds behind the listing are unaffected, and dozens of other sites buy the same feeds.

Your data is on more than just TruePeopleSearch

We track 275+ sites across the US and UK. Run a free exposure check to see everywhere you appear — then let us send the removal requests for you and keep monitoring.

FAQ

Will my data reappear?

It can if the underlying source data refreshes. Re-check periodically or let a monitoring service handle it.

Why is TruePeopleSearch free when the others charge?

It monetises through advertising rather than subscriptions. The practical consequence is that anyone at all can see the full listing without paying, which makes it one of the more exposing sites to be on.

My relative’s listing still shows my name — can I remove that?

Not directly; you can only opt out records about you. What you can do is check which relative listings mention you and ask them to opt out their own, which removes the cross-link.

How often should I re-check?

Every few months is realistic. This directory re-lists more aggressively than most, and nothing tells you when it happens.
